The immediate aftermath of the multi-car accident at the start of the race: Ronnie Peterson (SWE) Lotus (Yellow overalls) lies in the track having been pulled from his shattered, burning, Lotus 78, and is tended to by marshals, Clay Regazzoni (SUI) Shadow (Red Overalls) and Patrick Depailler (FRA) Tyrrell (Blue helmet). James Hunt (GBR) McLaren (Black helmet) walks from the scene with team mate Bruno Giacomelli (ITA) McLaren. Vittorio Brambilla (ITA) (Right) lies - head slumped -in his Surtees TS20 after suffering a serious head injury from which he fully recovered. Tragically, Peterson would die from a blood clot following an operation in hospital on his badly broken legs.
