Michael Schumacher (Ferrari F2001) found himself battling with his old sparring partner Mika Hakkinen (McLaren MP4/16 Mercedes) about midway through the race after he took his first pitstop. Hakkinen kept him behind for five laps until he came in for a stop. They finished in 1st and 4th positions respectively.
