Behind Rubens Barrichello (Jordan 193 Hart) retires after he spun on the approach to the chicane. Marco Apicella (Jordan 193 Hart) and J.J. Lehto (Sauber C12 Ilmor) also retire as they were hit trying to avoid the spinning Barrichello.
