David Coulthard (GBR) won his first F3000 race in bizarre circumstances. Race leader Pedro Lamy (POR) ran off the circuit handing the lead to Coulthard. One lap Lamy overtook Coulthard at the final corner and, thinking he had won the race, raised his fists in celebration. By the time he had realised Coulthard was back in front and went on to win the race. Lamy went on to run wide and crash!
